What is Chhurpi Dog Chew

In Agroculture Nepal, we care for people and animals alike. Our product is an ancient Himalayan recipe called “Chhurpi dog chews”. It is organic and hand made using only yak/cow milk, lime and salt, and contains a rare 70% protein making it the healthiest dog chew available in the market. These Chhurpi come from remote villages of Nepal and contribute to a livelihood of over 1500+ dairy farmers.

The Art Of Churpi Making

Yak/Cow milk collected

Yaks and cows graze at an altitude of 15,000 ft and above, munching on herbs and other medicinal plants in the himalayas. Milk from these animals are collected to create the Chhurpi dog chews.

Milk is boiled

The milk is boiled to reach a temperature of 80°C to kill disease causing microbes

Fat is extracted and separated

Fat is separated, and then removed, from the milk to produce skimmed milk using the centrifugation process, to make the Chhurpi suitable for dogs.

Lime and Himalayan salt added

Milk is reboiled, along with himalayan salt and lime, to begin curdling of the milk. A semi solid cheese is formed at the end of this stage.

Dehydration process

The semi solid cheese is then packed into rectangular blocks, in a jute cloth, and pressed by heavy force to extract and remove excess water.

Drying Process

The rectangular blocks are cut to produce long sticks of hard cheese, and smoke dried for 28 days. This is a natural way of putting a preservative layer on the dog chews.

Inspection and Processing

From about 40+ micro dairies, these chews are brought into our facility in Kathmandu for inspection and processing. Chews that match company standards are separated for further processing - these chews are then packed and exported to your local pet stores, for your dog's to enjoy all the way from Nepal.

Chhurpi was first made in the himalayas to preserve milk in the cold. By turning it into hard cheese, the milk was preserved and turned into a long lasting snack, packed with calcium and protein.
